Moving FAQ
Common questions about cost, contracts, and choosing the right mover.
How does Bestmovers.info choose which companies it lists?
We do not publish a numeric score for moving companies. We list companies we can describe from sourced records: FMCSA registration and operating authority, years in business, licensed coverage area, and an estimated price range labelled by scope. Anything we cannot source is left blank. Full detail is on our methodology page.
Is Bestmovers.info a moving company?
No. We are an independent comparison and review platform. We don't move households ourselves — we help you compare licensed moving companies and find the right match for your situation.
How accurate are your moving cost estimates?
They are editorial estimates, not measured data. We hold no purchased quote dataset, no invoice sample and no tariff licence, so every range on this site comes from one published pricing model whose assumptions and as-of date are set out on our methodology page. Treat the ranges as a sanity check and confirm your own price with a binding written estimate.
Do you charge consumers for using the site?
No. The platform is free for consumers. Some companies pay referral fees when consumers request quotes — that funding never affects which companies we list or what we publish about them.
How often is the data updated?
Federal registration and licensing fields carry the date they were pulled, shown on each company page. The directory itself is refreshed on a rolling basis and the pricing model carries its own as-of date. We publish no BBB grade and hold no BBB dataset, so no page updates from that source.
How much do movers cost in the United States?
Local moves in the United States are estimated at $315–$2,480 depending on home size, while an interstate move out of the United States is estimated at $3,000–$7,000 for a two-bedroom household. Distance, packing services, and the time of year all shift those numbers.
When is the cheapest time to move in the United States?
October through April is generally the cheapest window in the United States — most movers cut rates 15–25% outside the May-to-September peak. Mid-month, mid-week pickups give the biggest discounts.
Are moving companies in the United States licensed and insured?
All interstate moving companies must register with the FMCSA and carry a USDOT number. the United States also requires intrastate movers to register with the state — verify any quote against the FMCSA SAFER tool before signing.
